So, after my week of madness, I am now paying the price and am now ill with some shitty fluey thing that 'everyone' has at the moment. I am a dreadful patient and have absolutely no, er, patience with illness. As it is, I am holed up at home with the central heating turned up and am self-medicating like crazy to try and stage an absurdly swift recovery. However, it's not all bad. Mostly because I downloaded Kylie's Showgirl Homecoming Live in Sydney CD this morning and am playing it as the background to my sickday.
Of course, I saw the real thing on Saturday night at Wembley Arena, which was great. I had heard that it was going to be much slower than the original (which I saw in 2005) and that it was full of lengthy breaks which interrupted the flow of the show so she wasn't so harried. However, that wasn't really my experience, to be honest. I thought it fair zipped along, and it was only in the second half (there was a lengthy interval) that I noticed longer breaks. Dear old Kylie seemed in great shape on every level which was so good to see. She had changed chunks of the show and switched around various tracks, not least the inclusion of the great new Scissor Sisters track White diamond which I posted a video of a while ago. Other highlights included I believe in you which was significantly better than last time, not quite sure why. Also, she had drawn quite heavily from the 'Impossible Princess' album (performing Too far, Cowboy style and Dreams). Her one mistake, I think, was dropping Your disco needs you, as several gaggles of queens screeched their request for that. The absence of Put yourself in my place was felt by me, but the performing of the chorus of Vogue during Burning up and The only way is up as part of the intro of I should be so lucky was nothing less than inspired. So, the whole thing was gay nirvana basically. New album now, more in the vein of White Diamond and less in the vein of Slow, please.
